Description of organisation:
My name is Justus. I am a Community Organizer. I double up as an award winning film director as well as documentary producer.
Our organisation came about as a result of young people bearing the urge of solving issues that affected their society. Our organization has been feted for the good work it has kept over the years. Our presence to the entire community is appreciated at all times and we pride ourselves in the motto"Servant Leadership" to all and sundry.
Our Organization decided to engage young children as well as the disabled children bearing in mind that they are very vulnerable and this came about after intense soul-searching. We decided to teach children photography and film-making as well as nurture their talents through: drama, acting, skating, dancing and gymnastics. The volunteers will be assigned to children homes with our team members, to special schools for the disabled and public schools where children come from poor backgrounds.
Description of a place:
Our organization is situated 30 kilometres from the capital Nairobi, along the busy Thika Super-Highway and the area is serene, peaceful and warm for anyone who wishes to come.
Is there a possibility to go with a friend/family for this volunteering programme?
Description of a target group/who can be a volunteer:
We are open to volunteers of all ages, the volunteers will be assigned to children homes together with our team members, to special schools for the disabled and public schools where children come from poor backgrounds and the volunteers will teach these children photography and film-making. After they are through with the photography and film-making, we together with the volunteers will set up a street photo exhibition within our locality where the children will exhibit their fine works of art.
Description of a volunteer’s duties:
The volunteers will take children through music lessons, acting, drama, public speaking, art and design which will involve drawing and sketching. Another category that is of essence is that of talent search where we will team up with the volunteers in forming a panel of judges where we will provide a platform for these kids and evaluate their capabilities.
The skills that the volunteers may offer are: camera lessons in photography, film-making and this will include film-production, editing etc.
Information about accommodation, food and logistic:
The volunteers will be required to pay an administration fee and this will go a long way in catering for their accommodation and food aloneThe volunteers will stay with host families and this will cater for their security since they will stay with people whom the organization is well aware of.The houses that they will be staying will have the necessary essentials like:water and electricity. The volunteers will be staying close to the organizations offices in terms of proximity and accessibility.
