Description of organisation:
United Vision is a Czech NGO. Its aim is to fight poverty, provide and spread enlightenment about the situation in developing world and promote volunteering.
United Vision primarily sends well-trained volunteers to Latin America who teach English using highly effective method. The help is aimed at rural areas with some tourist potential. The intent is that local people could make use of the knowledge of English at labour market or they could start off their own business activities connected with (eco)tourism.
In the next stage of the project other types of help are planned to be complemented to the local developing support - microfinance, fairtrade, help with promotion and development of local ecoturistic activities etc.
The aim of the project is to teach English to students of all ages from Xpujil or surrounding communities in Centro Cultural Germina (CCG), in the municipality of Calakmul, state Campeche. The teacher can also propose workshops on her/his own hobbies, and collaborate with other local NGO’s which organize cultural events in the building. CCG is space where people living in the community of Xpujil get access to workshops and exhibitions on popular arts and socio-environmental issues.

Description of a target group/who can be a volunteer:
Experience in teaching English (at least intermediate level).
Preferably have previous experience working in rural communities.
Ability to work in team.
Leadership skills and responsibility.
Capacity of planning topics and dynamic activities.
Ability to improvise.
Capacity to adapt to different fieldwork conditions (sleeping in a hammock, prepare meals, bathe in cold water, etc.).
Initiative to support other activities related to the project.
At least basic level of Spanish.
Description of a volunteer’s duties:
Design of English classes, define along with CCG materials. CCG will provide the materials and manage the small motivation fees collected from the students.
Organizing practical dynamic activities based on the theoretical classes.
English conversation with student during their free time.
Support CCG personnel in other activities related to the project such as organizing exhibitions, and art events.
Information about accommodation, food and logistic:
Volunteer will share a house with the hosts (students, artists, scientists) who work in CCG.
Food expenses (2 meals per day) will be covered by CCG.
Volunteer must cover his/her travel expenses just to the city of Chetumal, from where he/she will be travelling with the Centro Cultural Germina staff.
Volunteer should stay at least 5 – 12 months abroad (min. 4 months).
Volunteer must have a basic vaccination, travel insurance and age over 21 years (min. 18 years)
Possibility of spending free time:
Volunteer will have two days off a week in which he/she may decide to travel, but only on his/her personnel expenses for travelling, food and accommodation.
