(2 weeks, 6-12 months)
Description of organisation:
Teaching in one of our partner schools (any subject of your preferred choice), And we are also willing to accommodate you with any skills you may have. If you have an idea in which area you would like to volunteer you can also let us know and we will see if such an opportunity is available.
If you are interested in volunteering in the Health sector you will be able to work at a local hospital and help with consultations and basic health services
In addition, you will have time to explore this beautiful country and learn about its culture and language (while spending a lot less money than the normal tourist).
We work in Ghana to provide impoverished, orphaned and street children with Health Care and Education.
We need volunteers to help with teaching in one of our partner schools (any subject of your preferred choice), helping in local hospitals (i.e. during child delivery in the Maternity Unit), holding HIV/Aids awareness talks etc. These are only a few examples of the things you could be doing here in Ghana and we are willing to accommodate you with any skills you may have.
Description of a place:
TANF Ghana is located in Teiman-Oyarifa, which is on the outskirts of Accra in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. This is where our headquarters are located and our volunteer house. However, we do have opportunities for volunteers to work in the more rural areas of Ghana, where we organise health screenings and summer schools from time to time.
Is there a possibility to go with a friend/family for this volunteering programme?
Description of a target group/who can be a volunteer:
We are looking for volunteers who are open minded and hardworking. Volunteer must be 17 years of age or older. Volunteers can come in pairs or as individuals. Our volunteers come from across the globe. We have had volunteers from all parts of the world of all ages and we are excited to learn about volunteers and their cultures.
Description of a volunteer’s duties:
It depends what area you choose to work in. If you would like to work in education, you will be assigned a school and a class. You will have to work together with the teachers and textbooks to plan lessons that are suitable for the class you are teaching. If you are working in the health area, you are required to research public health topics to be presented, work with local doctors and nurses and plan health screenings. Volunteers are also expected to help with organisational tasks.
Information about accommodation, food and logistic:
You can choose to stay with a host family or in a volunteer house. In each place you will be provided with a bed and access to a flush toilet and shower. A mosquito net can be quite helpful. If you choose to live in a host family house you will become a member of that family, which gives you the opportunity to learn their culture and learn a new language. In a volunteer house you get to share a room and hose with other volunteers.

Possibility of spending free time:
The volunteer may wish to spend their free time with other international volunteers in the area.
Weekends are for your free time.
